Spartans’ Audrey Hurleman is Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week

By Sean McBryan — MikeDragoSports.com correspondent

Wyomissing junior Audrey Hurleman’s impact on the defensive side of the ball is felt every game. The constant tipped passes atop the Spartans’ zone usually sets the tone for the game.

Her defensive presence is a key reasons the Spartans are 28-0 as they get set to host Carver Engineering and Sciences in a PIAA Class 4A opener Saturday at 1.

Hurleman showed her offensive abilities last week in the Spartans’ run to the District 3 title as she scored 10 points in the semifinals vs. Northern Lebanon and 10 in the championship vs. Delone Catholic. That, combined with her defensive impact, earned Hurleman Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week for the first time this season.

Hurleman is clearly built for the big stage; her career-high of 12 points came this season in a win over Elco at the Wells Fargo Center, home of the Philadelphia 76ers.

“She rises to the occasion,” Wyomissing head coach Aaron Anders said. “She goes full bore the entire time. It’s amazing to watch her. She is such an athlete. She just works her tail off.”

The University of North Carolina lacrosse commit had 10 points, two rebounds, and five assists while shooting 50 percent from the field in the 45-32 victory in the district championship game. She had 10 points with four rebounds, and an assist while shooting 71 percent in the 45-15 semifinal win.

Hurleman averages 4.9 points per game and has played in all 28 games for the Spartans.

This is Hurleman’s second selection; she was also the final selection as Player of the Week last year. She joins Wyomissing teammates Amaya Stewart and Annie McCaffrey as selections this season.

Players considered for Player of the Week honors are nominated by their coach or by members of the MikeDragoSports.com coverage team.
