Reading High and Yamilex Rodriguez picked an opportune time to embark on their longest winning streak of the season heading into a crucial Berks I showdown tomorrow against Berks Catholic.
Rodriguez scored 18 points against Daniel Boone, 10 against Gov. Mifflin, and 21 Harrisburg last week to earn Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week honors. The Red Knights went 3-0 and improved to 6-2 in Berks play and 9-9 overall.
The Red Knights have positioned themselves to make a push for the BCIAA and District 3 playoffs with Tuesday’s important game against the Saints (5-2 Berks I, 7-9) looming.
Rodriguez’s 21-point game against Harrisburg was her second-highest of the season behind her 24 points against Hempfield in December. Her career high is 26 points, which she reached against William Allen as a freshman.
“She has a lot of potential,” Reading High head coach Rashida Suber said of her junior guard. “She still hasn’t reached her ceiling.
Rodriguez scores at a team-high 11.1 average for the Red Knights, who are the fifth-highest scoring team in the Berks Girls League. She’s the 13th highest-scorer in the league and one of 16 players averaging in double figures.
She is up to 631 career points after averaging 7.9 points in 24 games as a freshman and 9.6 in 25 games as a sophomore.

Reading can qualify for the BCIAA playoffs if it finishes as the runner-up in Berks I or qualifying as one of two wildcard teams. The Red Knights would strengthen their runner-up chances with a win over BC Tuesday. They’re currently in the BCIAA field as the last wildcard qualifier.
The Red Knights (.607) are currently No. 14 in the District 3 Class 6A power rankings and need to move up two spots to qualify. They’re chasing No. 13 Waynesboro (.618) and No. 12 Gov. Mifflin (.657).
This is the first time Rodriguez has been selected Player of the Week and the third time a Reading High player has been selected. Kya Washington was selected in 2021-22 and Ashanti Chapman last year.
Players considered for Player of the Week honors are nominated by their coach or by members of the MikeDragoSports.com coverage team.
