When the Tennessee Titans called his name last week, Nick Singleton joined a short list of Berks County high school grads selected in the NFL Draft.

Singleton, taken in the fifth round, and as the 165th player overall, was the first Berks player selected in five years, since Exeter’s Michal Menet was picked in the seventh round of the 2021 draft by the Arizona Cardinals.

Singleton was the third Mifflin grad ever drafted, following John Pincavage in 1966 and Al Gursky in 1962.

Only four players have been taken in higher rounds, and only two – Lenny Moore and Kerry Collins – have gone in the first round.

Both Moore and Collins had distinguished NFL careers.

Moore, known as the “Reading Rocket,” was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, helped the Baltimore Colts to two NFL championships. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1975.

Reading High coach Andy Stopper with Lenny Moore during Moore’s Pro Football Hall of Fame induction.

After setting the Reading High scoring record and the Penn State rushing record, he became an integral part of a legendary Colts team that included fellow Hall of Famers Johnny Unitas, Raymond Berry, and Artie Donovan.

During his 12-year career, all with the Colts, Moore scored 113 touchdowns and finished with over 12,000 combined yards. He became the only player in league history with 40 or more rushing touchdowns and 40 or more receiving touchdowns.

Collins, who led Wilson to its only appearance in a PIAA championship game, played 17 seasons in the NFL with six teams. He was drafted by the Carolins Panthers in 1995, the fifth player taken overall, and led the New York Giants to Super Bowl XXXV.

He passed for more than 40,000 yards and 200 touchdowns in the NFL and twice was selected for the Pro Bowl.

At Penn State he was named Big Ten Player of the Year as a senior in 1994, won the Maxwell and Davey O’Brien awards, and led the Nittany Lions to a 12-0 record and a Rose Bowl win over Oregon.

Wilson’s Chad Henne, a second-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2008, played 15 years in the NFL and won a pair of Super Bowl rings. He left Michigan as the Wolverines’ all-time passing leader.

Wyomissing’s Alex Anzalone was a third-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in 2017. He played four seasons with the Saints and has played with the Detroit Lions since 2021. The 2026 season will be entering his 10th in the league.

Reading High has had the most players selected in the Draft, with five; Bob Bickel in 1952 was the first.

Wilson has had four players drafted.
