The Twin Valley Raiders have more to celebrate than just the program’s 30th anniversary season.
They’ll be playing for their first District 3 championship Friday when they meet Susquehanna Township in the Class 4A title game at Elco High School.
The third-seeded Raiders (12-0) are the last Berks County team playing. Berks Catholic lost its District 3 Class 3A championship game to Trinity. Wilson, Exeter, and Wyomissing were beaten in district semifinals.
Waiting for the Raiders is top-seeded Susquehanna Township (12-0), which stung Wyomissing 37-35 with a touchdown pass as time expired in their Class 4A semifinal.
The state quarterfinal match-up of unbeatens will be one of the most anticipated in the state. The Raiders have been ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 4A for the past three weeks and will remain there after their 45-14 win over previously unbeaten and second-seeded West York. Susquehanna Township is ranked No. 4 in the state.
They are among just four undefeated Class 4A teams remaining in Pennsylvania. The others are District 4 champ Shamokin and District 2 champ North Pocono.
The winner Friday will advance to the PIAA semifinals to face either District 10 champ Oil City or District 7 champ Aliquippa.
The PIAA championship game will be Dec. 4 at Cumberland Valley’s Chapman Field.
The Raiders trailed 14-0 in the first quarter against West York before reeling off 45 unanswered points. They didn’t take the lead until early in the third quarter; they outscored the Bulldogs 32-0 in the second half.
Twin Valley got 250 yards rushing and four touchdowns from senior Drew Engle and 75 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns from junior Lucas Myers, who topped the 1,000-yard mark for the first time. Engle has rushed for 1,574 yards, just 25 shy of his program record, established two years ago.
Twin Valley was making its fourth straight district semifinal appearance and earned its first win in that round. It lost to Bishop McDevitt in 2022, Manheim Central in 2023, and Lampeter-Strasburg last year.

Susquehanna Township will be making its fourth district championship appearance and first since 2015; the Indians are 0-3 in title games. They lost to York Suburban in 1986, Manheim Central in 2009, and Bishop McDevitt in 2015.
With the victory the Raiders extended their program record for wins in a season. They set that record with a 10-2 finish in 2023, when they reached the district semifinals. They won the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 title that season; they won the Section 4 title this season.
Before Brett Myers arrived as head coach in 2022 Twin Valley had never won more than seven games in a season. They’ve won seven or more in each of his four seasons, have gone 38-10 overall in that span and 31-5 over the last three seasons.
Twin Valley is averaging 53.33 points per game, second in the state to Schuylkill Haven, which is averaging 53.38 after its 34-31 loss to Williams Valley on Friday in the District 11 Class 2A championship game.
The Berks record is 54.5 points per game, by Governor Mifflin in 2020.
Twin Valley’s 640 points are the second-most ever scored by a Berks team. Wyomissing scored 671 points in 16 games in reaching the PIAA championship game in 2021.
