Reading High’s Gabe Laws and Paul McClune and Ean Winchester, towering figures in Twin Valley’s most successful season, have been named to the Pennsylvania Football News Coaches All-State teams, announced today.
The 6-foot, 210-pound Laws is a second-team pick as a Defensive Athlete on the Class 6A team. He was a second-team all-league pick at linebacker in Section 1 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.
McClune was a first-team pick at guard on the Class 4A team; Winchester was a second-team pick at defensive tackle.
Players are nominated and selected by coaches across the state.
Wyomissing’s Justice Hardy was named to the Class 3A team on Thursday.
McClune and Winchester were each selected for the Pennsylvania Football Writers’ All-State team last month.
The 6-4, 295-pound McClune was an all-league pick in Section 4 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.
The 6-2, 265-pound Winchester was Defensive Lineman of the year in Section 4. He was second on the team in solo tackles with 45 and led the team in sacks.
McClune is committed to play football at the U.S. Naval Academy; Winchester will wrestle at George Mason.
Winchester was also an all-league pick at tight end and a driving force in the running game as the H-back. In short-yardage situations the Raiders turned to him and he converted, with 11 touchdowns on 31 carries. He also had 16 receptions.
Together, he and McClune helped the Raiders lead the 37-team league in total offense at 448 yards per game and in rushing at 324 yard per game.
They helped the Raiders set a single-game program record with 619 total yards in a season-opening win over Schuylkill Valley and led the way as running backs Drew Engle and Evan Johnson combined to rush for 2,688 yards, the most ever by a Berks running back duo.
There were no Berks selections on the Class 5A team.
