Oley Valley’s Danny Turchi and Reading High’s Daniel Alcantara are on the verge of becoming 1,000-point scorers.
Turchi, a senior wing, needs eight points heading into Saturday’s regular season finale against Spring-Ford. He should have at least one additional game to play, in the District 3 Class 4A Tournament; that spot has not been officially clinched yet.
Alcantara, a senior forward, needs 11 points to reach the milestone. His first chance will come Monday in a Berks Conference quarterfinal against Wyomissing at Geigle Complex. He’ll also have a chance in the District 3 Class 6A Tournament; the Red Knights are in line to be the No. 1 seed.
Turchi has closed quickly on the milestone. He scored a career-high 37 points in a 64-45 win over Annville-Cleona Thursday. He had 23 points by halftime and finished with four 3-pointers and by making 7-of-8 free throws.

Turchi, who is averaging 17.9 points per game, has scored 86 points over his past three games. Before Thursday his career-high had been 25 points, in a 58-44 win over Pequea Valley last week.
Turchi will become the ninth player in program history to reach the milestone; Sebastian Williamson, in 2016, was the most recent.
Alcantara is also coming off a career-high performance. He scored 30 points in the Red Knights’ 89-55 win over Wilson on Wednesday. He is set to become the 18th player in program history, and the second this season, to reach 1,000 points.
Junior guard Ruben Rodriguez topped that figure earlier this season; he has 1,136 points and is on pace to challenge Lonnie Walker IV’s program record of 1,828.
Turchi and Alcantara will become the third and fourth members of the Class of 2022 to score 1,000 points.
Antietam’s Hector Tiburcio topped that mark last season and currently has 1,355 points. Tulpehocken’s Bryce Mellen reached the milestone last week and has 1,011.
Tiburcio is within 140 points of the Mounts’ program record of 1,495, set by Mount Penn’s Fred Wittich in 1972.
