Reading High’s Myles Grey is Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week
Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week

Myles Grey is perfectly happy to play in the shadow of All-State teammate Ruben Rodriguez — and perfectly capable of emerging from it when needed.
Twice this season with his team trailing and Rodriguez struggling to find his shot Grey stepped up to carry the load. He did it again Wednesday against Devon Prep, scoring a game- and season-high 28 points as Reading High rallied for a 58-50 win against their Philadelphia Catholic League foe.
“He never ceases to amaze me,” said Rodriguez. “Everybody’s sleeping on him; they’re gonna have to wake up eventually.”
Grey’s output was part of a big week that saw him average 20.7 points and earn Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week honors for the first time this season. He earned the award once last season.

Grey, a 5-10 senior guard, scored 17 points in a 73-56 win over Central Dauphin in the opening round of the Reading Holiday Tournament and was named tournament MVP after his performance against Devon Prep, when he was good on 11-of-19 field goals, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
He finished his week with 17 points against nationally ranked Gonzaga College of Washington, D.C.
Early in the season, with Rodriguez’s shot not falling, Grey scored 15 second-half points as the Red Knights rallied to beat Cardinal O’Hara 68-65 after trailing by 19. He was named Reading’s MVP in the Hoop Group Showcase.
“He fills in wherever he needs to for the team,” said Reading coach Rick Perez. “He brings the ball up, gets everybody set up, leads us in assists. He’s the general.
“When you prepare for this moment (as he does), when you come to work every day (it’s not a surprise to see him come through). He’s been the first in the gym every day (and) the last in the gym every day.”
Grey is second on the team in scoring at 15.6 points per game. He averages 5.8 assists per game and has an outstanding 3-to-1 assists to turnover ratio.
He averaged 10.4 points per game as a junior, when he was an all-division pick. He scored a career-high 30 last season against Twin Valley when he set the program record with 10 3-pointers in a game. He finished the season with a team-leading 57 3’s — third-most in the league — over 30 games.
On many teams Grey would be the headliner but he understands he role at Reading and performs it superbly. He’s been a key contributor in the Red Knights’ back-to-back District 3 Class 6A championships.
“I’m here to sacrifice my ego any day or any night,” he said. “If Aris (Rodriguez) is on fire, he gets the spotlight; if Ruben’s on fire, he gets the spotlight. I’ll stay in the shadows all day if that means we’re winning. All day.”
Grey is the first Reading High player to earn Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week honors this season.
