High-scoring Twin Valley kicks off Week 5 with Thursday game vs. Octorara

Twin Valley, the hightest-scoring team in Pennsylvania, opens Week 5 of the Berks football season with a Thursday night home game against Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 4 rival Octorara, starting at 6.
The Raiders (4-0) have made quick work of their first four opponents, outscoring them 196-11 in the first half. Overall the Raiders have outscored the opposition 234-39 and are averaging 58.5 points per game, highest in the state. Port Allegany is No. 2 in scoring, averaging 57.7 points.
The Raiders made Berks football history last week when they reached 60 points for a third straight game in a 60-0 win over Elco. Twin Valley became not only the first Berks team to record 60 points in three straight games but the first to do it three times in the same season.
The Raiders are ranked No. 6 in the state in Class 4A.
Twin Valley figures to get more resistance from Octorara (3-1), which is coming off a 42-28 win over Daniel Boone and has won two straight. The Braves opened the season with a 34-6 win over Hamburg. Their only loss came in Week 2 to Section 3 favorite Solanco, 49-14.
Twin Valley won last year’s game over the Braves 49-7 as Evan Myers threw a pair of first-quarter passes to Joey Buckley and later connected with brother Lucas on a 54-yard scoring pass.
The Braves avoided a shutout when Brayden Mastrippolitto scored on a 48-yard fourth-quarter run. Mastrippolitto enters the game leading the league in rushing with 647 yards; he’s tied for the rushing touchdowns lead at 11 with Muhlenberg’s Cameron Small. Mastrippolitto is averaging 11.3 yards per game.
Octorara finished 5-5 in the regular season last year and qualified for the District 3 Class 4A playoffs, losing to Section 4 rival Elco in the opening round. It was just the second appearance in the district tournament for the Braves.

Twin Valley is ranked No. 2 in the league in total offense, averaging 428 yards per game; only Kutztown, at 462 per game, has produced more.
Twin Valley is ranked No. 2 in the league in total defense, allowing 136.5 yards per game. Conestoga Valley is No. 1 at 131.2 yards per game.
The Raiders have two of the league’s top running backs in senior Drew Engle and junior Lucas Myers. Engle has rushed for 389 yards, is averaging 11.8 yards per carry, and has run for six TDs. Myers has rushed for 322 yards, is averaging 15.3 yards per carry, and has run for eight TDs.
Twin Valley first-year starting quarterback Maverik Foster is ranked No. 2 in the league in passing efficiency. The junior has completed 66.7 percent of his passes and has thrown for 409 yards and six TDs without an interception.
The Raiders set a program scoring record last season by averaging 40.2 points per game. A year earlier they established the record at 39.7. That topped the mark of 32.2 set in 2022.
Twin Valley has won 16 straight games in August/September over the last four seasons and is 19-3 overall in those months since the start of the 2022 season, the first for Brett Myers as head coach.
The Raiders have opened 7-0 in each of the past two seasons.
