Aris Rodriguez shoots Reading High to fifth straight win
WARMINSTER — Aris Rodriguez knocked down five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points as Reading High remained unbeaten with a 66-54 win over Philadelphia West Catholic Saturday afternoon in the Diane Mosco Foundation Shootout at Archbishop Wood High School.
The Red Knights (5-0) played in the third game of the six-game event.
Rodriguez was good on 5-of-7 shots from beyond the arc. The 6-5 senior wing is averaging 18.8 points per game with 16 3’s in five games.
Two-time All-State guard Ruben Rodriguez scored 18 points for Reading, had a team-high nine rebounds and four assists. He had a pair of 3’s. He is averaging a team-best 24.8 points.
Yadiel Cruz scored 12 points and Myles Grey nine for Reading. Grey also had five assists and four steals.
Adam “Budd” Clark led the Burrs (1-2) with 20 points, nine in the fourth quarter.
Reading led just 25-23 at halftime before pulling away in the second half.
Reading opens Berks Conference play Tuesday at Gov. Mifflin.
The Red Knights opened last 6-0 before losing to Devon Prep in the Reading Holiday Tournament.
The memorial tournament honors the wife of Archbishop Wood coach John Mosco.
Reading High beat Wood 58-57 in the 2021 PIAA Class 6A championship game. John Mosco and Red Knights coach Rick Perez have a mutual respect for each other and their respective programs, and Perez promised to take his team to the charity event, which funds scholarships for students at St. Hubert’s and Archbishop Wood.
Wood ended Reading High’s season last year with a 64-58 win in the second round of the PIAA Tournament. Earlier in the year the Red Knights beat the Vikings by the same score at the Geigle.
