Twin Valley’s season ends with opening-round loss at Abington Heights

Twin Valley’s offensive troubles continued in the opening round of the state tournament Thursday with the Raiders able to score only nine second-half points in falling to Abington Heights 40-24 in the opening round of the PIAA Class 5A girls basketball tournament at Clark’s Summit.

The loss by the Raiders (16-11), coupled with Berks Catholic’s loss to Lake-Lehman in Class 4A, ended the season for Berk girls basketball. Brandywine Heights also went out in the opening round, losing Tuesday in Class 3A.

Twin Valley, the sixth-place finisher in District 3, was within 27-19 after three quarters but managed only two field goals in the final quarter.

The District 2 champion Comets (20-6) had a balanced scoring effort, with Caroline Murray and Anna Scoblick each scoring 12 points and Allison Dammer scoring 11. The Comets were good on 9-of-15 free throws; the Raiders got to the foul line just four times.

Natali Foster and Anna Kaplan each scored seven points for the Berks II champion Raiders.

Abington Heights advances to meet District 3 runner-up Mechanicsburg, which advanced Wednesday with a 44-37 win over Radnor.
