Top seeds Norchester, Boyertown advance in Berks Senior Legion (updated)

Top seed Norchester and second-seeded Boyertown won for the second straight night, advancing to the winner’s bracket final in Berks Senior Legion League tournament play Thursday.

Norchester defeated Reading 5-1; Boyertown defeated West Lawn 4-1. They’ll meet Friday at Owls Field at 7 in the third game of a triple-header.

Post 217 and Birdsboro were eliminated from the double-elimination tournament after losing Thursday. Eighth-seeded Post 217 fell to fifth-seeded Twin Valley 5-4; seventh-seeded Birdsboro lost to No. 6 Shillington 10-8.

In elimination games Friday at Owls Field, Shillington plays Reading at 1 and Twin Valley plays West Lawn at 4.

Norchester 5, Reading 1

At Bucktown, Shay Gelb and Jared Berish combined on a five-hitter as the top-seeded Bulldogs topped fifth-seeded Reading.

Berish pitched the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out five.

Dylan Donaghy had two hits, an RBI and scored a run for Norchester.

Boyertown 4, West Lawn 1

At Bear Stadium, Zach Rothermel pitched a five-hitter and Evan Hetrick drove in two runs as the second-seeded Bears topped the third-seeded Owls.

The Bears scored twice in the fifth on Hetrick’s two-run single and twice in the sixth to erase West Lawn’s early 1-0 lead. Tyler Hoffman had an RBI triple and scored to make it 4-1 in the sixth.

Rothermel walked three and struck out two in going the distance for the Owls.

Shillington 10, Daniel Boone 8

At Rulon Griffith Field, Jon Radwanski and Cohen Eshbach each drove in two runs as No. 6 Shillington eliminated No. 7 Birdsboro. The Dodgers scored three times in the sixth to take the lead for good. The Mavriks scored three times in the fourth to take an 8-7 lead.

Mason Woolwine went 6 2/3 innings to get the win; he allowed 11 hits and eight runs, four earned.

The lead changed hands five times.

Mason Walter had two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs for the Mavriks.

Twin Valley 5, Post 217 4

At Elverson, fifth-seeded Twin Valley scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to eliminate eighth-seeded Post 217.

Seth Hatfield had three hits and Markos Karros had two hits and two RBIs for Twin Valley.
