Tony Zonca to join MikeDragoSports.com staff as contributor

Tony Zonca has written about Pennsylvania sports for more than half a century, covering the Philadelphia and Reading Phillies, the Philadelphia Eagles and 76ers, Penn State football, professional tennis, Berks high school football and basketball, and much, much more during a storied journalism career.

Now he’s sharing his years of experience and sports memories with MikeDragoSports.com as a senior contributor.

Zonca worked in the newspaper business for 45 years, 34 of them with the Reading Eagle, namely with the Eagle’s award-winning sports staff.

Among the highlights of his sportswriting career was covering heavyweight boxing champ Muhammad Ali during his training days at Deer Lake.

Zonca began covering Reading High basketball in 1970 and recently published a book on Red Knights history: “60 Years of Reading High Basketball: Carril to Perez.”

He was a volunteer assistant coach for both Richard Reyes and Rick Perez at Reading High and later coached basketball at Alvernia University, where he was head of recruiting.

Tony and his wife Banny reside in Muhlenberg Township.
