Tiburcio, Mellen, Suarez highlight Berks boys basketball honor roll

MikeDragoSports.com presents an honor roll of the top Berks boys basketball players each week. Coaches are encouraged to nominate their top player for consideration. One player will be selected Player of the Week.

Hector Tiburcio, Antietam: The senior wing was named MVP of the Antietam Holiday Tournament after scoring 21 points with three rebounds, three assists and four steals in a win over Berks Christian and 21 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in a win over Delone Catholic.

Gunnar Wetzel, Brandywine Heights: The 6-5 senior had 14 points and nine rebounds and hit a pair of free throws with 2.5 seconds left to beat Upper Perkiomen 45-44 in the Tigers Classic semifinals. He had 13 points and eight rebounds in a loss to Fleetwood.

Charlie Dobb, Conrad Weiser: The senior center scored 21 points in a 40-35 win at Cocalico and 12 points in a 53-45 loss to the Eagles.

Colin Payne, Exeter: The senior wing scored a game-high 28 points and hit 10-of-11 from the foul line in a 51-48 loss to Palmyra and had a game-high 19 points in 52-41 win over Cedar Crest in the Cedar Crest Christmas Tournament.

Matt Harley, Gov. Mifflin: The senior forward averaged 20 points and six rebounds as the Mustangs beat Pennridge 73-64 and Boyertown 46-37 to win the Boyertown Holiday Tournament Championship. He had a career-high 28 points against Pennridge.

Edwin Suarez, Muhlenberg: The senior center had 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 68-59 win over Hazleton and 20 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and three assists in a 65-61 loss to Allen in the Allen Holiday Tournament.

Mark Rajnath, Schuylkill Valley: The junior guard had 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals in a 48-47 win over Daniel Boone.

Bryce Mellen

Myles Grey, Reading High: The junior guard had 13 points and four rebounds in a 62-50 win over Pocono Mountain West and had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 75-71 loss to Devon Prep. He was named to the Reading Holiday Tournament all-tournament team.

Bryce Mellen, Tulpehocken: The senior had 38 points, 18 rebounds, five steals and five blocked shots as the Trojans beat Annville-Cleona and Northern Lebanon to win the Northern Lebanon Christmas Tournament.

Kannon Zdimal, Twin Valley: The junior forward had 27 points and 23 rebounds, with a pair of double-doubles in wins over Schuylkill Valley and Pottsgrove in Twin Valley’s Santa Slam.
