One day after a nine-inning walk-off loss at Wilson, Gov. Mifflin did the same to Conrad Weiser Tuesday.

Ethan Grim scored on Dante Casantini’s fielder’s choice grounder to give the Mustangs a 7-6 victory in a Berks League crossover game at Rulon Griffith Field.

The Mustangs (4-2 Berks I, 7-2) rallied from a 6-3 deficit with three runs in the sixth, tying it on Grim’s two-run double.

Travis Jenkins, Mifflin’s standout catcher, was just as good on the mound, striking out nine over four scoreless innings to pick up the victory. He allowed just one hit in his first appearance of the season.

Jenkins combined with starter RJ Weaver and reliever Joe Kowalski to strike out 19 batters, with just four walks.

Jenkins’ effort was pivotal as both Grim and Bryce Detwiler, Mifflin’s top two pitchers, combined to throw eight innings against Wilson and were unavailable.

Detwiler, moved up to the leadoff spot, went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Mustangs.

Dylan Barret went 2-for-4, including a key single to set up the game-winning run in the ninth.

Shortstop Evan Rittle went 3-for-4 and scored three times for the Scouts (1-4 Berks II, 5-6), who lost for the fifth time in six games.

The win helped the Mustangs pull within half a game of Berks I leader Muhlenberg (4-1, 8-2), which beat Blue Mountain 8-0 in non-league play.

Wilson, which beat Mifflin 6-5 on Monday, closed within a game of the Muhls lead with a 9-4 win over Exeter in Berks I play.

Rittle started for Weiser and allowed just two hits over 4 2/3 innings, though he did walk six. He left with the Scouts leading 5-3.

The Mustangs tied it with three runs in the sixth when Detwiler, who had homered in the first inning, hit a two-out double to score Nate Radwanski and Grim followed with a two-run double.

In the ninth, Grim led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Matt Koehler.  Dylan Barrett’s single sent pinch-runner Ryan Lehman to third. He scored on Casantini fielder’s choice back to the pitcher.

Three Weiser pitchers combined to allow just five hits but the Mustangs took advantage of 10 walks and two errors and stole six bases.
