Team of the Day: Gov. Mifflin Mustangs
2024 Berks football coverage
presented by UECU

The Gov. Mifflin Mustangs have authored some of the greatest dynasties in Berks football history.
Half a century ago, with Ray Linn at the control switches, the Mustangs dominated the Tri-County League, winning seven championships over a 13-year span, including three straight from 1961-63.

Several generations later Mick Vecchio re-invigorated the program, turning the Mustangs into a force in the Berks Football League; they won 14 Section 1 championships over an 18-year run, including five straight from 2010-14.
The Mustangs’ most dominant player, Nick Singleton, re-wrote the Berks record books a few seasons back, rushing for 6,326 career yards and scoring 116 touchdowns.
The Mustangs can lay claim to one of the most dominant teams in Berks football history. Their 2020 team, led by Singleton, set a Berks record by averaging a staggering 54.5 points per game. That team claimed Mifflin’s only District 3 football title.
The following season the Mustangs recorded a second straight perfect regular season and ascended to No. 1 in the state rankings for the only time in program history.
Mifflin’s string of dominance came to an abrupt halt in 2022 when it saw its streak of 18 straight winning seasons — longest in program history — end.
Now, after a 5-6 finish in 2023, the Mustangs are looking to avoid a third straight losing season.
