For many years the first Wednesday in February signaled a big day in college football: National Signing Day.

It was traditionally when high school seniors made their official commitments to college programs, signing a national letter of intent.

In 2017 the NCAA introduced an early signing period, in December. That’s when many top college prospects now sign, among them Wyomissing’s Caleb Brewer, who is headed to Penn State; Twin Valley’s Paul McClune, who is committed to the U.S. Naval Academy; and Exeter’s Zack Zandier, who is already at Coastal Carolina (he enrolled in January).

They are among more than two dozen Berks players who have committed to play college football. More, mostly at the Division II and Division III levels, will make decisions in the coming weeks and months.

Seven Berks players are committed to play at the Division I level next season, including four at the FCS level (formerly Division I-AA). At least six others, including Fleetwood’s Mason Musitano and Hamburg’s Mason Semmel, are committed to play in the Division II Pennsylvania Conference.
