Schuylkill Valley’s Juliana Stichter is UECU girls basketball Player of the Week

By Sean McBryan — MikeDragoSports.com correspondent

Schuylkill Valley’s Juliana Stichter scored 34 points over two league wins for the Panthers last week to earn Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of the Week.

She scored a career-high 22 points in a 58-36 win over Hamburg and 12 in a 51-19 win over Tulpehocken. The Panthers have won three games in a row after a 3-6 start and pushed their league record to 3-2, good enough for second place in Division III of the Berks Girls League.

The career-high 22 points topped her previous high of 18, which she recorded twice this season, against Annville-Cleona and against Tulpehocken. Stichter has scored in double figures in 10 of 14 games.

Stichter moved into the starting lineup this season and is showing that she’s more than ready for the increased role. She has boosted her scoring average from 4.0 as a sophomore to 12.4 this season, second-highest on the team and fourth-highest in Berks III.

Stichter’s shooting, ballhandling and all-around play helps her form a lethal backcourt with teammate Natane White, who averages a team-high 14 points per game.

Schuylkill Valley was one of four teams to go undefeated last week, along with Berks Catholic, Gov. Mifflin, and Reading High.

The Panthers remained two games behind Berks III leader Wyomissing. They get their second shot at the Spartans next Monday, at Wyomissing. The Spartans won the first meeting 42-31 Dec. 16 at Leesport.
