Oley Valley collects 13 hits in win at Kutztown

Oley Valley baseball coach Jeff Pinder wasn’t sure before the season if he’d have enough bats this season to make another run at the postseason.

He may have to reassess that after seeing the Lynx crank out 13 hits in a 14-7 non-league win at Kutztown Tuesday night.

Junior Paul Peterson and freshman Chase Kegerise each had three hits and the Lynx (1-1) jumped on top 9-2, with five runs in the first inning and four in the second. Peterson drove in two runs and scored twice, Kegerise had a double and two RBIs and junior Sean Hoffman had a double, drove in three runs and scored three times.

The Lynx scored four times in the top of the fifth to go up 14-2; the Cougars (1-2) scored four times in the bottom half to extend the game.

Kutztown, the defending champ and preseason favorite in Berks IV, collected 10 hits off three Oley pitchers. Dominick Pizzelanti and Bryce Schafer each had two hits, Nick Hugo had two RBIs and Matt Remick scored three runs.

The Cougars were hurt by five errors, leading to seven unearned runs.

Peterson closed the game for Oley Valley, striking out five over the final two innings. He allowed three hits and one unearned run.

Oley Valley is considered the top challenger in Berks III to preseason favorite Hamburg.

The Lynx and Cougars meet in a league crossover game April 19 at Oley.
