KINZERS — The high-powered Kutztown rushing attack stayed hot against Pequea Valley with Ryan Walters leading the way in a 36-28 victory Friday night in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 5 game.

Walters sat 155 yards and Ian Bahr 7 from joining their backfield mate, Mason Sherry, with 1,000 rushing yards this season.

Bahr ended with 15 yards while Walters was the main focus, finishing with 186 yards.

It is the first time three Pennsylvania players on the same team have rushed for 1,000 yards since 2008, and the first time in Berks history.

It was a back-and-forth game most of the way.

Pequea Valley (1-6, 3-7) tied it at 22-22 at the half when Anthony Stoltzfus connected with Austin Blank for a 26-yard touchdown pass, and Blank followed with a two-point conversion.

The second half belonged to the Cougars (1-6, 2-8), with Walters rushing in for his second of four touchdowns on Kutztown’s first drive of the half.

Sherry had back-to-back sacks to help seal it.

Star of the game

On a night that belonged to the three running backs being in the 1,000-yard club, one shined brighter than the rest, Ryan Walters.

Key statistic

The Cougars came into the game with the second-most rushing yards in the League and they did not disappoint as they finished with 365 yards on the ground.

Sherry had 136 yards to finish the season with 1,351. Walters ended with 1,031 and Bahr with 1,008.

Quotable

“The objective was to get three 1,000-yard rushers. Obviously if we can get (Walters) over 155, we will be victorious because that is a lot of yards. We just did what we do.” – Kutztown coach Larry Chester
