One more honor for Gov. Mifflin grad Connor Maryniak, and it’s a big one: The Misericordia University junior has been named the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Division III National Player of the Year.
Maryniak — who led his team to a national championship — was one of just nine players selected across all divisions of amateur baseball.
He tied the school record by starting all 55 games, including 42 at shortstop, while setting school single-season records with 70 RBI and 130 total bases and tying the school record with 13 homers.
He was fourth on the team in batting (.345) and led the team with a .631 slugging %.
Maryniak added a team-high five triples and was second on the team with 10 doubles.
He had 20 multi-hit games and led the team with 19 multi-RBI games.
As a starting pitcher, his 11 wins are the second-most in school history and his 76 strikeouts are third.
The ABCA/Rawlings Award Program is one of the most comprehensive in all of sports, honoring Players of the Year, All-America teams and Gold Glove teams in nine divisions of amateur baseball, as well as All-Region teams in five divisions.
Founded in 1887, Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc. is an innovative manufacturer and marketer of sporting goods worldwide.
