Lynx’s season ends against fourth-seeded Fighting Irish

Oley Valley’s season came to an end Monday in a 65-40 loss at York Catholic in a District 3 Class 3A girls basketball quarterfinal.

Paige O’Brien had 10 of her 14 points in the third quarter for the fourth-seeded Fighting Irish (17-6), who extended their lead to double digits and closed the game in the fourth. 

York Catholic moves on to face top-seeded Lancaster Catholic in the semifinals Thursday. The Fighting Irish clinched a berth in the state tournament.

Morgan Snyder finished her high school career with a game-high 18 and 1,059 career points for the fifth-seeded Lynx (17-7), who won their first division title in 10 years this season. Snyder will play field hockey for Penn State.

York Catholic had balanced scoring with Mariah Shue scoring a team-high 15, O’Brien 14, Amanda Reed 14, and Meredith Smith 13. Reed had 10, Shue nine, and Smith seven in the first half as the Fighting Irish built a 32-26 lead.

Snyder had 13 points in the first half and five in the third but was held scoreless in the fourth, when the Lynx scored just four points.
