Dave Voigt, one of the longest-tenured and winningest coaches in Berks baseball history has resigned as head coach at Wyomissing.

Voigt was Spartans coach for six seasons and a head coach for 39 seasons total, including 33 at Tulpehocken. He leaves with 341 victories.

Only Kutztown’s Tim Mertz and Muhlenberg’s Brian Kopetsky have more career wins among active Berks coaches; none have coached as long as Voigt.

The Spartans finished 8-12 this season, just missing a Berks playoff spot.

They were 39-44-1 overall in Voigt’s six seasons, one of which (2020) was suspended due to COVID-19.

His best team at Wyomissing, in 2021, went 15-2, won the Berks III championship and reached the District 3 Class 4A championship game, falling to Elco.

“Dave was a great addition to our coaching staff,” said Wyomissing athletic director Frank Ferrandino. “His care for the well-being of student athletes always came before any skill taught on the baseball diamond.

“He truly has seen and done it all in athletics for 40 years.”

Voigt won 302 games and took Tulpehocken to the district playoffs 14 times during his 33 seasons with the program, which ended in 2018.

In 2009 the Trojans went 19-6 and reached the District 3 Class 2A championship game, falling to Brandywine Heights in the championship game.

The Trojans reached the Berks semifinals in 2005 and 2009.
