SHIPPENSBURG — Wyomissing was supposed to lift this trophy two years ago before COVID robbed everyone of the chance to compete. The Spartans’ dream team was never realized.
Two years later a different team, with one dream athlete, captured the PIAA Track and Field Class 2A boys championship.
Powered by Jven Williams’ record-setting performance, Wyomissing collected 32 points to finish ahead of Southern Columbia at 26 Saturday.
Williams earned 20 of those points with gold medals in the discus and shot put. The junior broke Dane Miller’s county record by reaching 66-7.75 in the shot.
Amory Thompson finished third in the triple jump and sixth in the 200 to boost the Spartans. The 400 relay team featuring Thompson, Andrew Delp, Charlie McIntyre and William Delp placed sixth.
Wyomissing, which won the District 3 title last weekend, has its state crown. Better late than never.
