MikeDragoSports.com is excited to announce the addition of award-winning sportswriter Julie Pelchar Cohen to the writing staff.
Pelchar Cohen, who earned statewide awards for her feature stories on Berks track athletes during her years at the Reading Eagle, will be the track and field beat writer for MikeDragoSports.com this season.

She’ll kick off her coverage next week, with features on some of the top athletes in Berks County as they prepare for the Stephan Meet on April 22.
Pelchar Cohen said she was “lucky enough” to enjoy her dream job when she worked as a sportswriter for the Reading Eagle.
Throughout her 20-year writing career, Pelchar Cohen covered high school sports, local and professional golf events, and spent several seasons as the newspaper’s beat reporter covering the Reading Royals. She left reporting fulltime to focus on raising her three children.
She is most connected to the local golf and track and field communities. A four-time BCIAA and District 3 champion at Wilson and a competitor on the national junior golf tour, Pelchar Cohen played NCAA Division I golf for the University of Alabama, where she earned a Journalism degree.
She discovered her love for track and field early in her writing days while covering the District 3 and PIAA championships.
Julie currently works at ROG Orthodontics.
Pelchar Cohen remains involved with golf by helping LPGA Hall of Famer and Berks native Betsy King organize a fundraising event for her charity, Golf Fore Africa.
While she hits the links occasionally, Pelchar Cohen is more often found running in her neighborhood. She “wouldn’t trade for anything” her current days as a sports (and theatre) mom to teenagers Adelaide, Cameron and Vivian.
