Evan Johnson etched his name into the Twin Valley history books Friday night, scoring two touchdowns in a 51-7 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 4 win over visiting Elco.

The touchdowns gave the senior three-year starter a program-record 42 career touchdowns. He topped the mark set by Dominic Caruso in 2021.

Twin Valley led 44-0 at the half; Elco (1-3) did not score until the final minute of the third quarter.

Not only was Johnson electric on the offensive side but he sparked the team with an interception that gave Twin Valley (4-0) early momentum.

“Honestly, throughout pratice we had just been practicing the plays that (Elco) has been running,” said Johnson. “That was one of the plays they ran. Luckily, we were in the right coverage, at the right time. I was just there to make a play.”

Johnson only carried the ball seven times but made the most of them. He rushed for 79 yards, averaging over 11 yards per carry, finding green grass time and time again.

“Obviously, it’s amazing,” Johnson said of the rushing record. “I couldn’t do it without the linemen. But we’ve got bigger and better goals ahead. I’m not really focused (on the record), obviously I am very thankful, but we’ve got a big road ahead of us.”

Twin Valley has outscored its opponents 202-33. It is ranked No. 3 in the Pennlive.com Class 4A state rankings. Coach Brett Myers said he is not concerned about rankings.

“It’s unimportant,” he said. “It doesn’t matter where we are ranked right now. We’re at Week 4, we haven’t reached the midway point. There’s a lot of football (left).

“We’ll find out at the end of the year, when it’s all over and you look back and decide what good football looks like. We’re chasing that right now, just trying to find our way in playing good football.”

Damarion Terry also had an interception for Twin Valley.

“We just wanted to come out and play our game, that’s what we came out to do,” said Johnson. “We focus on (this) week. We don’t focus on weeks ahead.”

Quarterback Evan Myers completed 8-of-12 passes with three TDs. His accuracy was on full display as he threw perfect passes on his deep shots and was able to fit the ball into tight windows, all while staying poised in the clean pocket.

His 50-yard touchdown pass to Ben Grundy was perfectly placed over an outstretched defender while hitting his receiver in stride to cap off a dominant first half.

Myers rushed for 49 yards, converting three of Twin Valley’s 15 first downs with his legs.
