Hector Tiburcio of Antietam is Wyomissing PT Player of the Week

Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week

Hector Tiburcio’s scoring is actually down a little this year from his junior season but that’s been a good thing for the Antietam Mounts. They’ve got a solid No. 2 scorer and emerging team leader in Josh McKoy and that’s taken some of the load off Tiburcio.

“If I’m off, he’s on,” Tiburcio said of McKoy, “and if he’s off, I’m on. Him coming up this year is a big help.”

Tiburcio was off at the beginning of the Mounts’ District 3 Class 2A semifinal against Greenwood, missing his first six shots, but heated up to finish with a team-high 16 points in the 52-38 win. He made his final seven shots and has been named Wyomissing Physical Therapy boys basketball Player of the Week.

The win sends the top-seeded Mounts back to the championship game and a rematch vs. No. 3 Lancaster Mennonite, which beat them in last year’s title game.

Tiburcio will be playing in his third district championship game Saturday at Giant Center at 12:45. The Mounts also made it in 2019.

“(Making the district final) is a big deal for the team,” Tiburcio said. “It is for me, as well. I have been there three out of four years in my basketball career.

“I have two second-place (medals) at home and I’m ready to bring home the gold.”

Tiburcio is the highest-scoring Antietam Mount ever, with 1,397 points. That’s No. 2 in program history, behind Fred Wittich, a 1972 Mount Penn grad who finished with 1,495 points.

Tiburcio is averaging a team-leading 16.6 points and has 20 3-pointers. Last year he averaged a team-best 18.3 and led the team with 33 treys. He also led the team in scoring as a sophomore at 16.8 per game

Tiburcio is the 11th Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week for the 2021-22 season and the first from Antietam this season.
