Despite a loss in the opening round of the BCIAA girls basketball tournament Saturday Brandywine Heights still has a lot of season left.
The Bullets will be the No. 1 seed in Class 3A for the District 3 Tournament and already have a berth locked up in the PIAA Tournament. The top four finishers in 3A advance to the state playoffs. The Bullets, who have a bye into the semifinals, are guaranteed of that.
Brandywine Heights is one of seven Berks girls basketball teams which have qualified for the tournament; final official power ratings were posted on the District 3 website earlier today.
Four of the seven qualifiers will open at home; the higher-seeded team earns home court advantage through the semifinals. The championship games will be played at Giant Center.
Opening-round games are Feb. 21 and 22.
In Class 6A, Wilson is No. 9 and Gov. Mifflin No. 11
Twin Valley is the No. 8 seed in Class 5A, and earned a home-opener. The Raiders will qualify for the PIAA Tournament by winning their first game; they are eliminated with a loss. The top eight teams advance to states in 5A.
In Class 4A, Berks Catholic is No. 3, Schuylkill Valley No. 4 and Wyomissing No. 10. The Saints and Panthers open at home and can qualify for the PIAA Tournament with one win. With a loss, they’ll head to the loser’s bracket to battle for the fifth or sixth state berth. The Spartans must win their opener to advance.
The Bullets will have a home semifinal against either No. 4 York Catholic or No. 5 Susquenita.
