Daniel Boone and Exeter are meeting in a season-opener for the first time since 1964, and for just the third time in the 63-year history of the series.
The Blazers and Eagles first met in a season-opener in 1960, with Daniel Boone winning 25-6; the next year Boone took the opener again, 25-0.
The rivals first met in the final game of the regular season in 1967; that became a regular thing beginning in 1976.
Daniel Boone played Exeter 61 straight seasons, the longest continuous rivalry in Berks football history, until being forced to cancel last year’s game due to COVID issues.
With the Blazers in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League and the Eagles in Section 2 they can’t meet in Week 10 under the current format.
Exeter leads the series 40-22-1.

Wyomissing needs to win its first five games to claim the Berks record for longest regular season winning streak.
The Spartans take the field Saturday at home against Kennard-Dale with a 25-game winning streak after recording three straight unbeaten regular seasons. It’s the third-longest streak in Berks history.
Wilson owns the record with a 30-game regular season winning streak from 2012-15. Berks Catholic put together a 29-game streak from 2013-15.
The Spartans, ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 3A, head to Pottsville next week, then play Trinity, Berks Catholic and Elco.
Gov. Mifflin enters the season with a 21-game regular season winning streak.

Rick Keeley’s teams have won 22 of their last 23 season-opening games.
Berks Catholic has won 10 straight season-openers since losing to Pope John Paul II in 2011, the Saints’ first game.
Keeley’s Holy Name teams won their final 10 season-openers and his Hamburg team won openers in 1999 and 2000.

Wyomissing has won five straight season-openers, second-longest active streak in Berks behind Berks Catholic.
The Spartans have gone 10-1 in season-openers since 2011, their lone loss coming 32-7 at Pottsville.
Last season Berks teams went 8-7 in Week 1.

Schuylkill Valley begins its 50th season tonight when it opens at home against against Twin Valley.
The Panthers debuted in 1968 with a 31-7 win over Schwenksville. It was their only win in what became a 1-7 season.

By their fourth season they had a winning record under Mark Snyder but they haven’t had many since: Just 10 total in 49 seasons.
The program took a five-year hiatus from 1992-96 because of low roster numbers. In the 25 seasons since they returned to the field they have enjoyed just six winning seasons.
Twin Valley leads the series 11-6, with seven straight wins.
The Panthers’ last win in the series came in 2014.
