Doug Myer abruptly steps down as Twin Valley girls basketball coach

Twin Valley girls basketball coach Doug Myer unexpectedly resigned Thursday, according to both Myer and Twin Valley Athletic Director Taylor Parker.

Myer, when contacted Friday, said he had no further comment.

Parker stated she was not expecting the change and that her “jaw dropped” when Myer came into her office to ask if she received his resignation letter. Parker said the third-year head coach stated “personal reasons” as a factor in his decision.

Deana Gorgone and Matt Hahn will take over as co-head coaching role to finish the season. Parker said she’ll reevaluate who takes over as head coach at the end of the season.

Twin Valley has started the year 1-1 in Berks II and 3-6 overall. The Raiders went a cumulative 23-35 in Myer’s tenure with two District 3 tournament wins in his first year.

Myer previously coached at Wilson for 18 seasons and has won 361 career games, the second most of any active Berks girls coach behind Berks Catholic’s Bob Birmingham (641).
