When it’s time to select the All-Berks baseball team it’ll be hard to decide whether to choose Carson Renner as a hitter or pitcher. The Brandywine Heights senior dominates no matter what side of that pitcher/hitter battle he’s on.
He came up biggest on the mound last week with a one-hit shutout in a 7-0 Berks League crossover win against Berks Catholic. Renner struck out 12, his dominating performance more than enough to earn Utilities Employee Credit Union Pitcher of the Week.
“With Carson on the mound, he gives your team a chance to win every game,” said Bullets coach Ron Schaeffer Jr. “His teammates battle behind him and keep Carson going strong.”

The win over the Saints was key in helping the Bullets move into first place in Division IV of the Berks League and move up in the District 3 Class 3A power ratings.
They head into the week ranked No. 3, behind Camp Hill and Lancaster Catholic.
The Bullets took over first place in the division earlier in the week with a 6-5 win over top rival and defending Berks IV champ Kutztown.
They recorded three league wins last week to improve to 4-1 in the league and 8-2 overall.
They have won 6-of-7 heading into Monday’s game key crossover game against defending Berks III champ Hamburg.
The only hit Renner allowed in his gem against the Saints was a single to Mikey Fidler. He walked three. The dozen strikeouts gave him 100 in his career. Last season he pitched a team-leading 32 2/3 innings, striking out 38.
As a batter, the junior homered five times, second-most in the league, and slugged .685, fourth-best in the league. He batted .315, led team with 18 runs scored in 19 games and drove in 13.
This season he has an 0.94 ERA in 23 innings with a 3-1 record with 30 strikeouts. Opponents are batting .174 against him.
Renner is the fourth Utilities Employees Credit Union Pitcher of the Week this season, and the first from Brandywine Heights. Players considered for UECU Union Pitcher of the Week honors are nominated by their coaches or by MikeDragoSports.com.
