Caroline Reedy of Berks Catholic is UECU Player of the Week

Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of the Week

She’s on the verge of leading her team in rebounding for the third straight season, in scoring for the second time in three years and of becoming Berks Catholic’s third 1,000-point scorer.

There’s more to Caroline Reedy than all of that; much more.

She does what it takes for the Saints to win. With their defensive stopper, Caraline Herb, unable to play in a key Berks League Division I showdown against Gov. Mifflin last week Reedy stepped into that role and performed.

“Her tenacity has made her such a great player,” said Berks Catholic coach Bob Birmingham. “That, and her consistency. We know what we’re going to get every game from her, and in bigger games we get even more. Her consistency and her leadership are apparent when she’s out on the floor.”

Reedy scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds and played a vital defensive role in the win 50-45 win over Gov. Mifflin. She also had 18 points and 10 rebounds in win over Reading high. That was more than enough to earn the Utilities Employees Credit Union girls basketball Player of the Week.

“She picked it up the defensive end and guarded Taylor Koenig (Mifflin’s top scorer), and did an absolutely phenomenal job on her,” Birmingham said. “We needed her to do that; we needed her to step up.”

Reedy leads the team in scoring (13.6), rebounds (9.2) and blocked shots. The 5-9 senior also has 17 3-pointers, second-best on the team. Before this season she had never made a 3-pointer; she’s been starting since her sophomore season and played regularly as a freshman.

“She’s been making herself a better and more complete player every year,” Birmingham said.

Reedy earned All-Berks honors as a junior. She scored 19 points in 55-45 win over Wyomissing in the BCIAA championship.

Reedy has 932 career points entering Tuesday’s game at Reading High. Sometime early in the postseason she figures to join Devon Merritt and Dejah Terrell as Saints 1,000-point scorers.

Berks Catholic is 9-0 in Division I and on the verge of clinching the division title. It is 16-3 overall and in position earn the No. 2 seed in the upcoming District 3 Class 4A Tournament.

Reedy’s best stat is her GPA, which is 3.96. She plans to major in biology in college and enter veterinary or medical school upon graduation.

Reedy is the seventh Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of Week for the 2021-22 season, and the second from Berks Catholic. Herb was selected earlier this season.
