Despite a career scoring night by Sydney Corado, Bishop McDevitt was able to enact a measure of revenge on visiting Berks Catholic Thursday night with a 66-43 victory in a District 3 Class 4A girls basketball quarterfinal.

The Crusaders lost by 24 points to the Saints in the same round last season.

Senior guards Olivia Grella (18 points), Sophia Formica (15), and Kayla Culver (14) combined for six 3’s and 47 points to lead McDevitt.

Corado scored a career-high 28 points for Berks Catholic.

The fourth-seeded Crusaders (17-6) advanced to face No. 1 Delone Catholic, which won 49-22 over No. 8 Eastern York, Monday in a semifinals in McSherrystown.

The fifth-seeded Saints (12-12) host the Golden Knights in a state qualifier Monday; the loser’s season is over. The top six teams from District 3 advance to the PIAA Tournament.

The Saints have reached the state tournament in each of the last four seasons.

Corado and Langdon combined for 11 of Berks Catholic’s 12 first-quarter points as the Saints jumped out to a 12-10 lead.  Five different players scored in the second quarter for the Crusaders as they regained the lead at 27-25 at halftime.

Grella (two 3’s) and Formica (seven points) picked up their scoring in the third quarter as the Crusaders outscored the Saints by 10. Six players scored for the Crusaders in the fourth as they pulled away with a 22-11 quarter.

Corado’s previous scoring high was 21 points, earlier this month against Twin Valley. She entered the game averaging 9.8 points.
