Berks Catholic’s Brady Mider and Twin Valley’s Sarah Ann Miller have been named the Athlete of the Year in boys and girls track and field, respectively, by the Berks Track and Field Coaches organization.
Brian Holden of Twin Valley was selected boys Coach of the Year; Doug Dahms of Wilson was selected girls Coach of the Year.
Mider, a junior, went unbeaten in his specialty, the shot put. He won the PIAA and District 3 championships and set a personal best 59-4 in winning the county championship at the William H. Firing Victory Meet.
He was the county champ in the discus, set a personal best at 161-1 in winning a silver medal in districts and finished ninth in the state, just missing a medal.
Mider won the state indoor championship in the shot put, with a personal best at 61-4.
Miller was the county champ in the 400 and the 800; she ran a personal best 56.85 at the Firing Meet. She also ran the anchor leg on the Raiders’ silver-medal winning 4×400 relay and helped the team finish second.
Miller qualified for districts in four events and set a personal best in the 800 at the PIAA Championships, finishing in 2:12.90. It was the second-fastest time in Berks history.

Holden coached the Twin Valley boys to a second straight county championship; the Raiders finished with 140 points, nearly doubling the second-place team.
The Raiders had individual county champs in the 200, Vincent Acinapura, and the 400, Ben Grundy, and swept the three relays.
Dahms, in the last of his 33 years as Bulldogs head coach, saw the girls win the county championship.
Violet Houck and Maddie Henne were county champs in the 300 hurdles and discus, respectively, and the Bulldogs won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
