Berks track season heats up this weekend

The track and field invitational season arrives in Berks County with events taking place on consecutive days this weekend.

The Twin Valley Invitational begins Friday at 4 p.m. The Leonard Stephan Meet starts at Wilson Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Both meets have expansive fields including a wide range of Berks schools.

Brandywine Heights, Exeter, Fleetwood, Kutztown, Muhlenberg and Oley Valley are among the 21 teams joining the hosts at Twin Valley.

There are 23 teams competing at the Stephan Meet. Berks entries will come from Berks Catholic, Boyertown, Conrad Weiser, Gov. Mifflin, Oley Valley, Reading High, Schuylkill Valley, Wilson and Wyomissing.

From this weekend forward, there will be a major meet in Berks each week until districts and states. The Schuylkill Valley Invitational is April 30, followed by the John Shaner Meet May 6-7 and the William Firing Meet to determine the county champions May 12 and 14.

The District 3 championship meet is May 20-21 at Shippensburg University. The PIAA championships are May 27-28 at Shippensburg University.
