Top-seeded Berks Catholic will host No. 8 Schuylkill Valley as the Berks Girls League tournament opens Saturday afternoon with four games. There were no successful challenges at the coaches seeding meeting. The top eight seeds are ranked in order of their power rating.
The quarterfinals will be played at the site of the higher-seeded team.
The semifinals are Tuesday at Santander Arena, beginning at 6, with the second game to follow.
The championship game is Friday back at Santander at 6, as the first game of a double-header. The boys championship follows at 8.
The Saints won their second straight division title, going through league play unbeaten; they finished the regular season 17-5. They defeated defending BCIAA champ Gov. Mifflin twice, by 10 and 14 points. All 12 of the Saints’ league wins were by nine points or more
Berks Catholic, Exeter, Wyomissing and Brandywine Heights enter as division champs. Wilson and Schuylikill Valley earned division runner-up spots. Gov. Mifflin and Reading High enter as wild cards.
Last year the fourth-seeded Mustangs defeated No. 3 Wilson 47-34 for the BCIAA championship. The Mustangs knocked out top-seeded Berks Catholic 41-40 on Shakyla Mayo’s buzzer-beater in the semifinals.
Gov. Mifflin has won five of the past eight county championships: 2022, 2020, 2019, 2016 and 2015. Berks Catholic has won the other three over that eight-year span: 2021, 2018, and 2017.
