Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of the Week
Every time she walks through Lloyd Wolf Gymnasium Caroline Reedy notices the banners that hang on the walls, listing past 1,000-point scorers who have played at Berks Catholic. She has always wanted to join them.
Saturday she did, and in grand style. She scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in Berks Catholic’s 52-36 win over Wyomissing in a BCIAA basketball quarterfinal.
Her effort has netted her Utilities Employees Credit Union girls basketball Player of the Week honors.
“I don’t think there’s any player in the league who does more (for her team),” said Saints coach Bob Birmingham. “I don’t care who you’re talking about. All she wants to do is win.”
Reedy is leading her team in rebounding for the third straight season and in scoring for the second time in three years. The hallmark of her career has been consistency — she averaged 10.5 points as a sophomore, 11.1 as a junior and 14.4 now as a senior. Before this season, she only had two games with 20 points or more.

“That just tells you how consistent she’s been over that four-year period,” Birmingham said. “We’re going to get 16-18 points, 10-12 rebounds every night. Especially in big games when we need her to step up.”
She’s consistent, but still improving. She entered the season with zero career 3-pointers. This season she has made 24 3-pointers.
“She worked hard to be able to do that,” Birmingham said. “It adds so much to her game. She can put it on the floor and go to the basket strong. She can use her right and her left really well. She’s a complete player.”
Reedy entered Saturday’s game needing 21 points to reach 1,000. Late in the game, with fans cheering for her to reach the milestone, she passed up a makeable shot and got an assist, instead.
“I just wanted to make the right play,” she said. “I knew there were still five minutes left. I knew it would come in its own time. I don’t really force anything. I like when my teammates make shots, too. When Caraline (Herb) drills the 3, it feels pretty good for me.”
Reedy is the second player this season to earn two Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of Week awards, and the third from Berks Catholic. Brandywine Heights’ Addison has been selected twice; the Saints’ Herb was selected earlier this season.
Berks League coaches nominate their top players each week. At the end of the season a Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of Year will be selected.
