Daylong rain didn’t keep Berks Catholic from winning its season-opener Saturday.

The Saints, playing in sunny Myrtle Beach, S.C., scored twice in the 11th inning to beat Twin Valley 8-6 in a non-leaguer for both teams.

The Saints rallied from a five-run deficit, scoring five times in the seventh to tie it, a run in the eighth to take the lead, then twice in the top of the 11th to win it.

Second baseman Mikey Fidler went 3-for-4 and had three RBIs to lead the Saints. He also pitched three innings, striking out four.

Sophomore Dillon Walls earned the win with four scoreless innings; he allowed five hits and struck out two. Walls also had two hits, a walk and scored a run for Berks Catholic.

Roman Cieless went 3-for-6, drove in a run, and scored twice to lead a 10-hit Twin Valley attack.

Senior Owen Rhoads started for the Raiders and pitched six scoreless innings, striking out seven; he walked just one.

The Raiders scored three times in the fourth and twice in the fifth to build a 5-0 lead.

Both teams have been in South Carolina preparing for the season since Tuesday; they’ll return home Sunday.

The Raiders resume regular season play Monday at home against Perkiomen Valley. The Saints will be home Monday against Reading High.

Several games scheduled to be played locally Saturday were postponed, or moved to earlier in the week.
