BC’s Brady Mider, Wyo’s Addie Cohen, Alexis Hardy top list of PIAA qualifiers

Berks Catholic’s Brady Mider is the top seed in the boys Class 3A shot put and Wyomissing’s Addie Cohen has qualified in three events for the PIAA Track and Field Championships, Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University.

Mider’s seed mark of 59-2.25 is nearly four feet longer than No. 2 — teammate Alex Witmer. Mider earned a silver medal last year in Class 2A, behind Wyomissing’s Jven Williams. Mider was the indoor state champion with a throw of 61-4.

Cohen, a junior, is seeded No. 3 in the Class 2A 800, and also qualified in the 1600 and 3200. Her times in the longer two races weren’t nearly her best as she faced little competition at the District 3 Meet and cruised to easy wins in both. Her time in the 800 was a PR.

Cohen is the only BCIAA athlete to qualify in three individual events. Teammate Alexis Hardy qualified in the 100 and 200 and the 4×100 relay.

Mider, who also qualified in the discus, qualified in two individual events, as did Brandywine Heights’ Adam Petersen, in the Class 2A 100 and 200; and Schuylkill Valley’s Luke Martinez, in the 2A long jump and pole vault.

Mider is among four returning to the state meet after winning medals last year. Hardy finished second in the 2A 100; Cohen finished seventh in the Class 2A 3200; and Schuylkill Valley’s Emma Deyarmin finished eighth in the 2A discus.

Also, two relay squads return after earning state medals: Oley Valley’s boys, who finished fifth in the Class 2A 4×800; and Wyomissing’s boys, who finished sixth in the 2A 4×100.

Other than Mider and Witmer, Berks’ highest seeds are: Cohen, who’s third in the Class 2A 800; Wyomissing’s Collin Niedrowski, fourth in the Class 2A javelin; Mider, who’s fourth in the 3A discus; Wyomissing’s 4×100 relay, fourth in 2A; and Twin Valley’s 4×800 relay, fifth in 3A.

Two pairs of siblings qualified:

Exeter’s Gabby and Carly Keith qualified in the Class 3A 1600 and 800, respectively. Wyomissing’s Andrew and William Delp each qualified in the 110 hurdles.

Wyomissing has the most qualifiers, with 13: seven boys, six girls. Twin Valley and Schuylkill Valley each have five qualifiers.
