It’s safe to say Gov. Mifflin’s Matt Koehler likes shooting against Muhlenberg.
The junior wing hit a career-best five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 21 points against the Muhls in an early December loss at Shillington.
Koehler continued to pound the Muhls Tuesday as he hit five more 3’s and scored a career-high 27 points in a 64-59 win at Laureldale that knocked Muhlenberg out of first place in Division I of the Berks Conference.
The win snapped Mifflin’s five-game losing streak against Muhlenberg.

Koehler scored 19 second-half points and the Mustangs (2-6, 6-11) broke ahead after leading by just a point at halftime. They scored 24 third-quarter points to build a 10-point lead, then held off a late Muhlenberg rally.
The Muhls (5-3, 11-7) saw their three-game winning streak snapped and fell a half-game back of idle Wilson (5-2, 12-5), which is now alone in first place. The teams play Monday at Laureldale.
Wilson took the first meeting 57-56 in overtime.
Bryce Detweiler had three 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 15 points for Mifflin, which had lost seven of its previous eight. The lone win in that stretch was an upset of Hempfield, which is batting for the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 title with Cedar Crest.
The Mustangs hit nine 3-pointers Tuesday, four in the third quarter when they outscored the Muhls 24-15.
Alex Collado had 17 points and Shermar Killen 16 for the Muhls.
Muhlenberg has three games remaining in the regular season, at home against Wilson and on the road against Daniel Boone and Reading High. It is in position to qualify for both the league and district playoffs.
Koehler, a first-year starter, leads Mifflin in scoring at 11.6 per game and with 32 3-pointers.
