Wyomissing’s Evan Niedrowski set for return to NCAA Track & Field Championships
Wyomissing’s Evan Niedrowski placed seventh in the men’s javelin at the NCAA East Preliminary Round last week, securing a return trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Niedrowski, a sophomore at Monmouth University, secured a spot in the top 12 with a throw of 71.88 meters on his first attempt, besting his 70.04 mark at last year’s East Regional.
Earlier this season he set the school record with a 74.20 throw at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton University. He won the Colonial Athletic Association championship.

Niedrowski will compete in NCAA championships Wednesday at the University of Texas. He is seeded 10th in the event.
Following his freshman season at Monmouth he qualified for the World Athletics U20 Championships last summer after winning the USA Track and Field U20 National Championship with a mark of 70.58.
He finished eighth at the World Championship with a final throw of 69.25 meters.
He was named an NCAA Division I second-team All-American as a freshman.
He qualified for the NCAA Division I Championships, where he placed 11th with a throw of 70.22.
Niedrowski earned a gold medal in the MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a throw of 63.83.
Niedrowski is one of the best javelin throwers in Berks County history. He won a PIAA championship as a sophomore before losing his final two high school seasons. COVID hit when he was a junior. A torn labrum in his right shoulder from his 2020 football season took him off the runway as a senior.
He had surgery in March 2021 and did not begin throwing until November that year.
In his first competition the following spring, at the Lehigh Invitational, he finished first with a throw of 68.45 meters. Two weeks later, at the Virginia Challenge, he finished third with a throw of 71.42 that set a record for Monmouth freshmen.
He earned All-Berks track and field honors as a freshman and sophomore.
Niedrowski was a linebacker and fullback on Wyomissing’s 2020 and 2021 District 3 Class 3A championship teams, each of which reached the PIAA championship game. He was an All-State pick at linebacker as a junior and an All-Berks pick at running back.
