Cam Burr’s bat looks playoff-ready once again.
The Muhlenberg third baseman put together his best week of the season, batting .562 with five RBIs and seven runs scored over five games last week to earn Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of the Week.
“This was a pretty darned good week for him,” said Muhls coach Brian Kopetsky. “You can start to see things really rolling for him.”
Burr’s bat caught fire last year about this time as he helped lead the Muhls to the Berks Baseball League championship. He went 4-for-8 with four runs scored and four RBIs in semifinal and championship game wins last season over Exeter and Oley Valley. He scored three runs in the first three innings of an 11-3 win over the Lynx in the championship at FirstEnergy Stadium.
It’s been more of the same this season as Burr, the Muhls’ leadoff hitter and catalyst, is batting a team-leading .385 with 18 runs scored and 20 steals in 21 attempts. He swiped six bags last week without being caught.

Burr leads the team with a .522 on-base percentage, .576 slugging percentage and 1.099 OPS.
With his involvement in the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships March 14-15 – he was part of a 200 relay team that earned a bronze medal in districts – Burr got off to an even later start in baseball this season than last year.
“He got off to a slow start (with the bat),” Kopetsky said, “then he was ushing too hard.
“Once the hits started to fall he relaxed. We had five games (last week) and he really got locked in. He’s hitting the ball to all fields.”
Burr is putting up numbers similar to last season, when he was an All-Berks pick. He batted .400 with 25 runs scored and 15 RBIs in 22 games, compiled a .543 on-base percentage – second-best in the league — .457 slugging and 1.000 OPS. He stole 13 bases. He was in the Top 10 in the league in four batting categories.
“He’s got a great eye (at the plate) and has the ability to quickly recognize breaking balls out of pitcher’s hands,” Kopetsky said. “It really shows up when you’re facing the better pitchers. He locks in extra hard and he really picks up that pitch well.”
This is Burr’s first Player of the Week selection this season, and the first for the Muhls. He was selected once last season. Players considered for Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of the Week honors are nominated by their coaches or by members of the MikeDragoSports.com coverage team.
