Jarred Berish allowed just four hits over six innings and Dylan Donaghy had two hits and two RBIs as top-seeded Norchester defeated second-seeded Boyertown 5-1 in the winner’s bracket final of the Berks Senior Legion League Friday at Owls Field.
Norchester, the defending champ, has won each of its three games; the Bulldogs play West Lawn Saturday at 4 at Owls Field. The Owls need a win to avoid elimination.
The Bears, who took their first loss Friday, meet Reading Saturday at 1 at Owls Field in an elimination game.
Blaine Waltimyer’s RBI double sparked a three-run fifth that gave Norchester a 5-0 lead over Boyertown.
Boyertown’s Evan Hetrick tripled and scored in the sixth to break up Berish’s shutout.
West Lawn 1, Twin Valley 0
At Owls Field, Lucas Gensemer threw a three-hitter as the Owls eliminated fifth-seeded Twin Valley.
Gensemer, who posted an 0.81 ERA over the regular season, struck out six and walked two.
The Owls took the lead in the fourth when Christo Hunsicker scored on Ryan Sekulski’s triple.
Kannon Zdimal pitched a strong game for Twin Valley, allowing four hits and one run. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
Reading 10, Shillington 9
At Owls Field, Anthony Herrera had three hits and drove in five runs as Reading stayed alive in the Berks Senior League League tournament Friday, beating Shillington 10-9 in an elimination game at Owls Field.
Fourth-seeded Reading scored in each of the first four innings, building a 9-3 lead. The sixth-seeded Dodgers rallied with five runs in the fifth and a run in the seventh to pull within a run.
Joelian Zapata had two hits and two RBIs and Jesus Rodriguez drove in three runs for Reading. Herrera went 3-for-3 with a triple and scored twice.
Mason Woolwine singled twice and drove in three runs for the Dodgers. Hunter Unger had a double and two RBIs and Jaxson Madara had two hits and an RBI.
