SHIPPENSBURG — The sound of clinking medals could be heard as Wyomissing’s track and field athletes milled about the infield.

All of the hard work was finished. The boys and girls were waiting for their final reward. The biggest of them all.

Wyomissing swept the Class 2A team championships at the District 3 Track and Field meet at Seth Grove Stadium Saturday. The girls collected 97.3 points to top second-place Trinity at 78. The boys earned 95 points with Trinity second at 74.3.

“It’s a fantastic group of boys and girls to coach,” Wyomissing’s Jim Delp said. “There isn’t another group that I would have preferred starting my career as the head coach than these guys. This weekend they brought it.”

On the boys side, Jven Williams won the shot put and discus and Amory Thompson took first in the long jump, 200 and was part of the winning 400 relay team.

All told, the Wyomissing boys won five gold medals and 20 district medals.

Girls champions included Addie Cohen in the 3200, Cadi Hoke in the 400 and the 400 relay team.

In addition to the three gold medals, the Spartans girls won 14 other medals.

“We were looking at the numbers all week,” Delp said. “We knew our girls were in position to win. They gave everything they had. It was a grueling day with the heat.”

Wyomissing has won the last three boys team championships and four of the last five. This was the school’s first girls title since 2016. The Spartans also swept the team championships in 2003.
