Connor Maryniak named MAC Freedom’s top freshman

Connor Maryniak has gone from Player of the Year to Rookie of the Year.

One season after dominating the Berks Baseball League, the Gov. Mifflin grad has been named the top freshman in the MAC Freedom Conference. He was also named to the all-conference second team.

The shortstop was fourth on the team in batting (.340) and led the team with six homers and with a .649 slugging average. He was third with 63 total bases.
Maryniak is third in the league in slugging and fourth in homers.

On the mound, Maryniak struck out 28 batters over 24 2/3 innings and earned three saves in 11 appearances.

As a senior at Mifflin, Maryniak enjoyed a season for the ages, going 13-0 with a 1.13 ERA and 147 strikeouts over 93 inning.

He threw eight complete games, had four shutouts and a no-hitter against Dallastown in leading the Mustangs to the Berks League title and District 3 Class 6A championship game.

Maryniak is one of six Misericordia players to earn all-conference honors.

Catcher Brock Bollinger and outfielder Garrett McIlhenney are first-team picks. First baseman Derrick Vosburg and second baseman Brady Madden are second-team picks. Designated hitter Joe Comins earned honorable mention.

The Cougars completed their season Saturday at 28-17 overall, 15-6 in the conference. They were swept in the MAC Freedom championship series by Arcadia, 2-0. They took 2-of-3 against Stevens in the semifinals to advance.

The All-MAC Freedom Baseball Team is nominated and voted on by the eight conference baseball coaches.

In the MAC Commonwealth, four Alvernia University players earned second-team all-conference honors: Pitcher Jack Cossa, relief pitcher Jake Umans, catcher Zach Rogacki and third baseman Brandon Smith.
