Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of the Week
Even at less than 100 percent Alexis Hess is still the best player on the court most nights.
The two-time All-Berks pick showed that last week when he scored 22 points and had seven rebounds in a key Berks III win over Wyomissing.
“Alexis played a great all-around game,” Fleetwood coach Steve Zeller said of the 49-33 win. “She sparked us at the end of the first half with some quick scores, and we kept the momentum going in the second half.”
Hess scored a career-high 29 points a few days later against Daniel Boone and has been named the Utilities Employees Credit Union girls basketball Player of the Week.

Hess, a 6-1 guard, earned All-State honors last season as a sophomore despite playing on an injured knee. She had surgery in the offseason, couldn’t play during the AAU season, and returned to the court just in time for the start of this season. That didn’t stop her from scoring 21 points in the Tigers’ season-opener against Conestoga Valley.
Hess is averaging 17.9 points per game, second-highest in the league, through eight games. She’s also among the league leaders with 13 3-pointers.
“Alexis is finally getting into ‘game shape,’ ” Zeller said. “She’s been scoring a lot lately, but it’s her overall play that I’m most impressed with. She has become a top notch defender and rebounder.
“I think we’re starting to get a glimpse of the player she is,” Zeller said. “You see what she can do even with them game-planning against her. She can do it all. She rebounds for us. She gives assists. Everything. I just see her getting better all the time.”
Hess finished tied for the league scoring lead at 17.5 points per game as a sophomore.
Hess is the fourth Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of Week for the 2021-22 season. Berks League coaches nominate their top player each week. At the end of the season a Utilities Employees Credit Union Player of Year will be selected based on the weekly winners and nominees.
