It appears Fleetwood plans to stay in-house with its next football coach.

Mel Fegely, an assistant coach with the Tigers, is in line to be approved as head coach next week when the Fleetwood School Board meets, according to the agenda for Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

Fegely was a long-time coach in the Oley youth system who served as Fleetwood’s running backs coach under Steve Pangburn, who resigned last month to take the head coaching position at Daniel Boone.

The Tigers finished 2-8 last season and have not won a game in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League over the past two seasons.

Fegely last season coached his two oldest sons, Beau, who will be a senior next season, and Hunter, who will be a sophomore.

Beau led the team with 774 rushing yards and with 13 touchdowns.

Mel Fegely was an outstanding back at Muhlenberg who went on to play at Liberty University.

He set program records for rushing yards in a season and career with the Muhls and played on three straight Inter-County League championship teams for John Yocum.

Fegely has served with the Reading Police Department since 2008. He is currently the director of Reading’s Police Academy.

Pangburn coached in the Fleetwood program for six years, the last four as head coach. He hired three of his Fleetwood assistants, Bob Kutzler, Randy Harders and Mores Manoyrine, for his Boone staff.
