Team of the Day: Fleetwood Tigers

2025 Berks football coverage

presented by UECU

The Fleetwood Tigers took their lumps in their early years, going winless in their first two seasons and winning just just six times over their first seven seasons. They lost 31 straight games upon their debut in 2001.

In recent years it’s been a different story: The Tigers have posted winning records fives times since 2013 and ended the 2021 and 2023 seasons holding aloft a tropy after winning an Eastern Conference championship. In 2019, they won a program-record eight games.

The Tigers fell back last season, finishing 3-7, but enjoyed early wins against local rivals Kutztown and Schuylkill Valley and nearly beat longtime powerhouse Manheim Central before falling short, 28-26.

The Tigers enjoyed their first winning season in 2013, won eight games and reached the district playoffs in 2019 and claimed their first trophy with an Eastern Conference championship in 2021.

Despite their lack of team success the Tigers have had some outstanding individual performances.

  • Tyler Emge became just the second Berks player to reach 2,000 rushing yards, in 2014.
  • Zach Koenig passed for over 2,300 yards the same year.
  • Czion Brickle rushed for 306 yards in a 2023 game against Solanco.
  • Corey Unger passed for over 4,000 yards in his first three seasons before transferring out before his senior season.

In 2023 the Tigers featured a trio of record-setters: Quarterback Jack Riffle, wide receiver Mason Musitano, and Brickle.
