(Corrected to show Mifflin’s opponent was Trinity of Washington, Pa.)
Even 500 miles away from home the Gov. Mifflin Mustangs are still a tough out.
The defending Berks Conference champs got off to a big start Sunday, jumping on Trinity 12-2 in their official season opener at Myrtle Beach, S.C., where they are enjoying spring training.
Right-hander Ethan Grim struck out nine over three hitless inning and Nate Radwanski hit a three-run homer as Mifflin bolted to a 9-0 lead after three innings.
Grim walked one. Bryce Detwiler struck out four over three innings and Dylan Barrett pitched the seventh as the Mustangs shut down the Hillers of Washington, Pa., on four hits, and with just one walk. The Mustangs didn’t commit an error, either.
Mifflin is one of six Berks teams spending several days in South Carolina or Florida to prepare for the season, which officially opened Friday. Berks Catholic, Exeter, Oley Valley, Twin Valley, and Wilson also have southern trips on the schedule.
The Saints and Raiders will meet in their official opener Saturday at Myrtle Beach.

Mifflin opens the Pennsylvania portion of its schedule Thursday at Pottsville.
