10 Questions with Oley Valley’s Morgan Snyder, presented by the Weeber/Langdon Team of Merrill Lynch

MikeDragoSports.com goes one-on-one with a Berks basketball player to find out what’s on his or her mind — on the court and off.

Morgan Snyder

Senior guard

Q: You’ll be attending Penn State on a field hockey scholarship. When you visit the Creamery which ice cream are you diving into?

My go-to flavor is WPSU coffee break.

Q: Who’s the high school player you most looked up to when you were a kid?

Shannon Lackey. She was a field hockey player who went to Oley and continued to play field hockey at Northwestern. I loved watching her play and was able to bond with her through our youth camps.

Q: In the offseason, how do you handle training for your two sports, field hockey and basketball?

I cross-fit train and do a lot of strength training and conditioning. I try to balance my time between training for basketball and field hockey. I think playing basketball has made me a better field hockey player and vice versa.

Q: If you could have dinner with any three historical figures who would you invite?

Abraham Lincoln, Muhammad Ali, and Amelia Earhart.

Q: What’s it like having your father (Kerry Snyder) as your basketball coach? Does he expect more from you than the other players?

Having my dad as my coach has been great. We love to talk about basketball games and strategies.

The car rides home aren’t always fun and there are definitely some difficult moments, however, I think the experience has made us closer.

Yes, he does expect more from me and he often pushes me the hardest.

Q: You can get tickets to any college basketball game in the country. Who are you going to watch play?

I would go to the women’s national championship game.

Q: If you could change one thing about high school basketball, what would it be?

I would add a shot clock to speed up the game. Or I would outlaw zones; I hate zones.

Q: Which class in school is even more interesting than basketball practice?

Anatomy and Physiology. My favorite teacher, Mr. (Jason) Moll, teaches it and I have really great classmates in it.

Q: Who has been your biggest inspiration in sports?

Definitely my high school field hockey coach, Tiffany Cappellano. She has such an in-depth knowledge of the game and she always pushes me to be the best player, teammate, and athlete I can be.

Q: Oley hasn’t finished with a winning record in your first three seasons. What’s it been like to be in contention for the county and district playoffs?

It has been really exciting. The excitement and energy that has been coming from how well we’ve been playing has made our season really fun. It’s awesome to play in games that mean something.
