10 Questions with Fleetwood’s Will Ryan, presented by Diamond Credit Union

Each Wednesday MikeDragoSports.com goes one-on-one with a Berks boys basketball player to find out what’s on his mind — on the field and off.

Presented by Diamond Credit Union

Will Ryan, Fleetwood

Senior center/forward

Q: If you could listen to music from only one decade, which would it be: 60’s, 70’s, 80’s or 90s?

Most definitely it would be the 80’s. Some of my favorites from the era are Michael Jackson, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC, Prince and Queen!

Q: You play tight end and defensive end in football. What’s the toughest thing about the transition from football season to basketball?

Definitely the conditioning. Basketball is constant running and cutting up and down the floor where as in football you have to go hard for about seven seconds and then get roughly a 30-second break in between snaps.

Q: Who’s the toughest player you’ve ever had to guard in a game?

Seamus Barter from Hamburg. When I was a sophomore he was a senior. Although we were similar in size he knew how to use his body and get position very well and it was a great battle under the boards.

Q: If you could be recruited by any college basketball coach in the country who would it be?

Jay Wright, Villanova’s coach. I’ve always been a big ‘Nova fan and I think Coach Wright knows how to win with class and is always very professional, and I respect that as a player.

Q: What’s the one super-power you wish you possessed?

I wish I could have the ability to read people’s minds. I’d use it to my advantage so I could pick off and steal the ball from QBs and point guards and get a ton of sacks.

Q: Who’s the hardest-working player on your team?

Dylan Fickes. He is an overachiever when it comes to school, sports, and life in general. He’s become a very close friend and I have a lot of respect for all of the work he puts in day after day. He inspires me to be better in all aspects of life, as well. You’ll always find him lifting in the gym and finishing first on the court in sprints during practices.

Q: What’s your go-to burger place?

Definitely Red Robin. Our baseball team made it a tradition to go there after wins and I think they have the best burgers around. They have an endless amount of toppings and the unlimited fries make it awesome.

Q: Which of your teammates would be toughest to guard in a game?

Jake Karnish. He can shoot, drive, rebound, DUNK! He does all the little things right which makes him impossible to defend. You don’t have to take it from me, though. Look at the stats. THEY DON’T LIE!

Q: What will a successful season look like for Fleetwood?

Making the district playoffs. We harp on it each day that if we want to achieve our goals, it all starts in practice. Get 1% better each day. We also want to win our division. We feel we have the players and the tools to make a statement this year.

Q: Knowing what you know now what advice would you give to freshmen at Fleetwood?

Just enjoy it, man. High school goes by so fast. Everyone says it but when you’re a senior you realize time flies. Make as many memories as you can and don’t take anything for granted. Play every game like it’s your last because it eventually will be. Don’t have any regrets!
